This was by far the craziest week I have experienced.
Monday- had an another appointment with the specialist.. Last week the bad news was the flow of one umbilical cord flow was different and the outcomes from them were terrifying! We expected the worst!
She then said we will be coming back bi-weekly!
Tuesday- I called my OB and asked to switch specialists. I just couldn't go back there anymore! I was tired of the news from her office and the way she talks to us! We were done!
Wednesday- We had our first appointment with the new specialist which technically isn't new to us...its the same one we went too with Jacie. We had the ultrasound and waited an hour for the doctor to come in. He told us he is not a risk taker, will not take chances and we will get answers. He wanted us to go to Houston! Houston is where the "twin specialists" are located. There are only 2 in Texas and Houston has both!
Thursday- Could not fake it at work so stayed home. I spent 4 hours on the phone that morning with the doctors, hotels and insurance. We left around 5pm and got to Houston around 10. We checked into our hotel and tried to sleep. I finally feel asleep at 4am and was up at 6. Not the best night I've had.
Friday- I was so nervous... I think the most nervous I have ever been. Got to the medical center at 8 and was called back by 8:20. We went into the ultrasound room. It lasted about 2 hours. Although we were scared because the technician walked out about 30 mins into it but a doctor walked in and was able to talk to us during the rest of the time. He said she was having a bad migraine and needed to leave.... He was super great and very detailed and gave us so much information and made us feel soooooo much better. After we were cleared for no surgery we were told to go eat and then come back for an echocardiogram. After another intense hour heart ultrasound we got good news and both their hearts looked great.
The outcome to this appointment was both babies look great, all body parts all organs including heart is great the ONLY thing we are dealing with the location of one of the umbilical cords implanted itself in a different location than the other baby. Its not wrong, just different. It doesn't mean anything bad is going got happen and as long as both babies keep growing at the same rate we don't have to go back and can continue being monitored every 2 weeks at home.
We felt pretty good after that. We headed home that day! My next appointment was with my regular OB doctor on Thursday.
